Podiatry for Peroneal Tendinopathy in Northampton

Support for Peroneal Tendinopathy

Pain on the outside of your ankle that won’t settle?

If you’re experiencing persistent discomfort along the outer side of your ankle or foot—especially during or after walking, running or uneven terrain—you may have peroneal tendinopathy.

At Move4 Physio, our sports podiatrist specialises in identifying and treating tendon overload injuries. We’ll help you reduce pain, restore stability, and get back to the activities you love.

What is peroneal tendinopathy?

Peroneal tendinopathy is an overuse injury affecting the peroneal tendons, which run along the outside of the ankle and foot. These tendons help stabilise the ankle and control movement during walking and running—especially on uneven ground or during sudden changes in direction.

Common symptoms include:

  • Pain or tenderness along the outer ankle or foot

  • Swelling or thickening over the tendons

  • Discomfort that increases with walking, running or side-to-side movement

  • Instability or “rolling” of the ankle

  • Pain when rising onto your toes or turning the foot outward

It’s common in runners, active individuals, and people with high-arched feet or a history of ankle sprains.

How our podiatrist can help

At Move4 Physio, we look at the bigger picture. Our podiatrist will assess biomechanics, gait, footwear, and tendon loading to identify why your peroneal tendons became overloaded—and what needs to change.

Your treatment may include:

✅ Biomechanical and gait analysis
✅ Footwear and terrain assessment
✅ Custom orthotics to support foot positioning and reduce strain
✅ Progressive tendon loading and strengthening exercises
✅ Balance and ankle stability training
✅ Return-to-running or sport planning
✅ Collaboration with our physio team if required

We don’t just treat the tendon—we help it adapt, get stronger, and cope with the demands of your life and sport.

Why choose podiatry for tendon pain?

As lower limb movement experts, podiatrists understand how force travels through your foot and ankle during movement. Our assessments and treatments are built around function—not just rest—so you can return to movement safely and confidently.
