Matt and Leian Lee support the Spinal Injuries Association and take on the Berlin Marathon
After a successful trip to the Valencia Marathon in 2017 where they both came out with personal bests, the husband and wife team have decided to have another hit this year in the cooler climbs of Berlin.
For those of you out there who have been training for an event this summer, you’ll be able to attest to the fact that the temperature has made fitting in the longer runs difficult. Despite this, Leian and Matt have been pounding the pavement, not only in Northampton but whilst on holiday in Devon, and also in Swansea whilst Matt was on a preseason tour with Northampton Saints RFC. They’ve even been joined on occasion by their 3 children, Elsa and Josie acting as cycling companions, keeping their mum and dad on target, and Jasper (1) offering plenty of regular vocal encouragement!
The cause which has been keeping ‘Team Lee’ going through the tough times in their training programme is the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA). Their experience working as physiotherapists in private practice and in professional sport over the last 15 years has meant they have both seen first hand the impact these injuries can have upon the individual and their families. The mission of the SIA is to support all people affected by spinal cord injuries to live a fulfilled life. They do this by funding care and support for those affected, and providing advice and counselling through some very tough times. In order to maintain this level of support, they rely upon the generous donations of the public.
Matt and Leian are raising funds for the SIA, if you click this link you can donate to this amazing charity, giving ‘Team Lee’ something extra to run for, and hopefully the impetus to run yet another PB.
We look forward to hearing your training stories, and for any events you may be training for, Matt and Leian can surely share their experience!
