Mums – You’re stronger than you think!

Move4 Physiotherapy Northampton have been hosting these amazing classes for over 3 months now, and they're going down a storm.  We can't claim any of the credit however, as the idea was developed by the amazing ladies over at The Mum Club and our own Personal Trainer, Jamie Warr has been valiantly sidestepping babies and toddlers to put the mums through their paces every week.  We thought it would be great to hear from Jamie about his experience thus far, so without further adieu, here's Jamie.

So I’ve been working with Jess and the Mum Club for over 2 months now and it has certainly opened my eyes to the world of parenting.

 

When the first class came around I had it all planned out and set up. However, I now see why they say you should never work with children and animals.  Plans A through F made a swift exit, I’m not sure what the mums thought of the class, but I think I disguised my panic and everyone broke a sweat (me included) and worked really hard!

 

We are now well into the second block of Mum Club Fit Club here at  Northampton, and I can safely say if you would have told me that 2 months ago I’d be running classes whilst entertaining a tiny human as well I would’ve laughed.

Now however, I’d like to think I take it slightly more in my stride.

After having watched my group of wonderful women grow in strength, fitness and confidence over the past couple of months, I have a few things I would like to say.

 

1. You can use heavier weights than just the 2kg weights in the “ab corner”. I’ve seen what is in your baby survival bag and I can assure you it’s more than just cotton wool! Don’t be afraid to head over to those weights and show everyone what you’re made of.

 

2. You can use your little one as exercise equipment – they just think it’s a game. Do some squats holding them, press them above your head, rock them to sleep whilst you’re doing crunches, baby bonding time and you get a workout too! Plus as you get stronger – they get heavier, it’s a win win.

 

3. Don’t be annoyed that you aren’t where you were pre baby – you’ve just grown a mini human. Your body needs to recover and that takes time, just keep going.

 

It will be hard, there will be times when it feels like c*$p, but I can tell you if you stick at it and trust the process, you will get there.
